Sacred Places and Eco Spirituality

Being Led to a Place You Did Not Intend to Go — A Conversation with Nancy Herlin

What makes a place sacred? And how might the natural world speak to us if we learn to listen?

In this episode of Room to Evolve, Jessica Goulding sits down with spiritual director Nancy Herlin to explore sacred places, eco-spirituality, and the quiet wisdom that emerges when we slow down and pay attention.

Nancy shares the story of how she and her husband were unexpectedly called to a piece of land outside Austin that eventually became Five Oak Ranch, a retreat center dedicated to spiritual reflection, listening, and connection with the natural world.

Together, Jessica and Nancy reflect on spiritual direction, sacred spaces, labyrinth walking, and the subtle ways the earth invites us into deeper awareness. From stories of trees, creeks, and symbolic encounters in nature to the practice of listening without trying to fix or interpret, this conversation invites us to rediscover the sacredness already present in our surroundings.
